The State Government has released preliminary designs for the new $1 billion hospital to be built at the Macquarie Point railyards in Hobart.
The Deputy Premier, Lara Giddings, says the plan is only at the concept stage, and the community will be able to have its say about possible designs.
Ms Giddings says the hospital will be no taller than five storeys, to protect current views of the cenotaph.
She says the building will take up a fair part of the railyards site, but still have room to expand.
