Gosford’s maternity unit given two weeks
Gosford Hospital on the New South Wales central coast has been given another two weeks to improve the standard of its maternity services before trainee obstetricians are withdrawn from the area.
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists issued the warning last month, because of a shortage of obstetricians at the hospital.
Dr John Erikson from Central Coast Health says a number of short-term measures are already in place but recruiting more obstetricians is the challenge.
“We’re advertising widely overseas and we’ve had some replies and some expressions of interest from some quite good consultants, but it’s not easy,” he said.
“We’ve done it before and not achieved that result. The problem’s not over but it’s looking like it’s well on the way to being over.”

Thank you lord! I am 36 weeks pregnant and I attend Gosford Hospital Antenatal clinic every week.
I ahve had nothing but negative experiences with the trainee’s! Im used as a school prop and than they wonder why my blood pressure is increased after being poked and prodded painfully by people who have no idea what they are doing!
